Traditional Foods, Healthy Communities
Cross-Cultural Urban Organic Farming
The "Traditional Foods, Healthy Communities" project works with urban growers to develop micro businesses, enterprises producing and marketing culturally important specialty crops and value-added products.
Growers participate in an intensive year-long program where they:
"Fresh Life" Pilot
Environmental health is only possible when the community is educated and engaged. "Fresh Life" is an educational series about the impacts of waste on our communities and what everyday people can do about it. Environmental Justice Advocates of Minnesota (EJAM) is partnering with North Minneapolis high school students to create the pilot episode of "Fresh Life" during the summer of 2010.
University of Minnesota students will work with North Minneapolis high school students in a series of after-school programs to develop the film. Students will explore:
Lead Poisoning Prevention
Our community faces serious environmental health issues because of the presence of lead and other toxins in the home. Environmental Justice Advocates of Minnesota's Lead Poisoning Prevention program is designed to reduce exposure to toxins, including:
- Lead,
- Carbon monoxide,
- Radon,
- Mold,
- Allergens.
The community is educated about ways to reduce exposure through educational events as well as home screening and referral.
Together Renewing Our Urban People's Environment
The environmental justice work of today cannot continue tomorrow without the leadership of our youth. Together Renewing Our Urban People's Environment (TROUPE) is a youth leadership project that engages 7th - 10th graders in the Northside neighborhood as the next generation of environmental advocates.

Sustainable Economic Initiative
The Sustainable Economic Initiative is EJAM’s new core program direction. The purpose of the initiative is to support community-led innovation that promotes economic development in Northside Minneapolis that will lead to long-term generation of local wealth and self-reliance while improving the health and well-being of people, community, and the land.
Green Jobs Advocacy
The purpose of EJAM’s Green Jobs Advocacy work is to ensure representation of low income communities and communities of color in development of local state policy to create green jobs.
